Rockin' Green Review and Giveaway: Tried and True

I have wanted to try Rockin' Green on my diapers for quite a while now. I was so excited to get a chance to review their laundry detergent and share how it worked with all of you.

To start I would like to share a bit about the company:

Rockin' Green is an award winning company making easy to use green products. These include Laundry soap, Funk Rock,and Shake it up.

The Laundry soap is made depending on what kind of water you have. There is Hard Rock, Soft Rock, and Classic Rock. On their website they have a really awesome tool to find out what kind of water you have, and what kind of detergent will work best for you.

They offer a product called Funk Rock, which is for stripping your diapers, extra stinkies, or pet accidents. This would be so much easier than boiling your diapers, or any of the other stripping methods, and lets face it. The less time it takes the better!

They have a product called Shake It Up as well, which is a pail liner freshener. Just sprinkle some of this in your diaper pail, and you wont smell a thing (except of course the yummy scents Rockin' Green has to offer)

Besides picking your style of Laundry soap, they also have a ton of fabulous scents to choose from.

Our Experience:
We used this for three loads of diapers. I put some pretty rancid diapers in these loads, and Rockin' Green cleaned them better than anything we have used. It also got some of the stains that my diapers already had out. (It was like line drying in the sun, with out all the extra work) I used unscented, and my diapers came out smelling like.. Nothing. You would never have guessed they had been pee'd (and pooped) on.

If you are looking for a laundry soap for your diapers that is easy on your babes bum, green, and still easy to use this is the product for you.

Cleaning Products and other ways to use household items:

A lovely Momma asked me if I had any recipes similar to the Laundry soap for cleaning products. These are a few things that I do around my house to avoid spending a ton of money on cleaning products (and a few beauty products), and these are going to be more natural.

Regular Glass Cleaner:
1 cup Rubbing Alcohol
1 cup Water
1 tbs. White Vinegar (You can substitute for a clear non-sudsing Ammonia for a heavy duty cleaner. This is normally what I use)

All Purpose Cleaner:
1 tablespoon Clear non-sudsing Ammonia
1 tablespoon Laundry Soap (you can use your homemade laundry soap for this one)
2 Cups Water
You can add Essential Oils to this to make it smell nice and fresh.

Furniture Polish
1 cup Olive Oil
1/2 cup Fresh Lemon Juice

Drain cleaner:(especially great for garbage disposals)
1/2 cup Baking Soda
1 cup White Vinegar
1 pot Boiling Water
Add Baking Soda to drain, CAREFULLY pour the vinegar down the drain (It will fizz loudly) Plug the drain (if you have two sided sink plug both sides) Let this rest for a few minutes and work its magic. Pour the boiling water down the drain. Its that easy. No more clogged or stinky drains.:)

A few Beauty product tricks

Foot Scrub
Olive Oil
Sugar
Essential Oils of your choice, or chamomile tea
Mix together until you get a grainy texture and lather up. You can also leave this on for a few extra minutes to soften your feet.

Face Scrub
Your favorite face wash
used Coffee grounds
Mix together until you get a grainy texture. Use to as a face scrub. This will give you a little bronze glow while maintaining soft skin.

Making Laundry Detergent, and Dishwashing Detergent:

I have had a lot of people ask me how I make my own laundry detergent, and dish-washing detergent. I wanted to wait and add pictures, but since I made so much last time I would be waiting a long time :)

This recipe yields enough detergent to do a years worth of laundry, and cost me about $11 for both the laundry and dishwashing detYou can find this in your grocery laundry aisle ergent :)

For the Laundry Detergent:
Borax ($3-$4)You can find this in your grocery laundry aisle.
Washing Soda... not to be confused with baking soda- ($3-$4) You can find this in your grocery laundry aisle.
1 bar ivory soap ($1)
Funnel ($1)
5 gallon bucket with lid ($3) I got mine at Home Depot. Its ugly, and orange, but it was cheap.
Containers you can save up (Free!) You will want the equivalent on 10 gallons. I used about 21 2 liters. (It has been brought to my attention that you should not use Milk jugs, as they eventually disintegrate. Crazy huh?!)
White Vinegar ($2 for a tub)

1. Shred your Ivory Soap. (You can substitute for any soap without added moisturizers or lotions) I did this using a cheese grater, but you can use a food processor if you would like. You want it to be nice an thin. Almost like dust.

2. Add this to a pot of hot water and heat until melted. Do not boil unless you would like your house to stink and a huge mess. :)

3. While this is heating add hot water to your bucket. (Note from personal experience. Do this with the bucket on the floor. I was dumb.) You want it filled about half way.

4. Add one cup of Borax, and one cup washing powder to your bucket. Stir very well. I used my husbands drill with a mixer extension for this- Well my husband used it. It was an excuse for him to use a tool. :)

5. Add your melted Ivory soap to the mix and fill the bucket with hot water (remember to leave some room for mixing.) Stir very well.

5. Put a lid on your bucket and let it sit for 24 hours.

6. Open the container and Stir again (it may look Egg soup like. This is perfectly normal)

7. You want to cut the recipe with half hot water again. So fill your containers half way with very hot water, and use a funnel to fill the rest of the way with your mixture.

Your done. Easy right?

You will need to use 1/2 cup for regular loads and 3/4 c for extra large loads. I also use these on my diapers, and I add 2 tbs vinegar per load. No stinkies yet!

For the Dishwashing Detergent:
1 Part Washing Soda
1 Part Borax

Mix and store in an air tight container. Use 2 tbsp per load, Vinegar for your rinse.

I wanted to share Zoeys Halloween Costume with you all. Shes going to be.... *Drum-roll Please....*



A sock monkey princess! (One of her favorite toys is her pink baby sock monkey)

We just ordered 2 things yesterday:
A super awesome pair of sock monkey shoes ordered from a lovely WAHM.
A stellar crocheted sock monkey hat.

I am also going to make a super full Tutu in brown's and Pinks, Leg warmers in the sock monkey material (assuming I can find it :/) And I am going to add a sock monkey to a body suit. I'm pretty excited about this (in case you couldn't tell :D)

Daddy's Birthday- Discovering your real friends after your first child.

My husband and I were very social people before our little princess came along. We went out with our friends at least a few times a week. I was (somewhat)prepared for the loss of some of those friends when our daughter came along. We knew that some of our still single friends were not ready to have friends with a child.

This did not make the last few months any easier :(

The first few weeks after we brought Zoey home we had visitors every day. Our friends came over once during this time with the exception of my DD's Godmother. We knew at this point that our relationship with all of our friends would be going into a totally different direction. But this was fine. Four months went by... nothing. No calls, emails, visits... nothing. It was like they all fell from the planet.

Then my husbands birthday came along, and we decided to throw a laid back cookout style birthday for him, as we knew this would be a good excuse to get everyone together and be social again. We invited all of our old friends. To our surprise they came. All of them!

Perhaps they are ready?

So many things change when you are blessed with children. It has been a real process of finding our real friends, but that has been a blessing too.
